Warwick Bioscope 35mm movie projector, 1897 as purchased

Made for Charles Urban by Walter Isaacs in New York City, this is the only known example of first type. A type 2 made in England is in the collection of the Cinematheque Francaise Number 1258 in the Laurent Mannoni Catalog. This was originally a Spoolbank Projector.

Henry V. Hopwood, Living Pictures, London 1899, page 132-135, and 213-214.

A very well written and interesting history of this projector appears in John Barnes, The Rise of the Cinema in Gt. Britain, Volume 2, Jubilee Year 1897, London 1983, page 152-159.

A Yank in Britain the Lost Memoirs of Charles Urban, East Sussex, 1999, edited by Luke McKernan is a most interesting book.
